FACILITATOR GUIDE 

for 

DISCIPLES BIBLE STUDY


RECITE

  • Have each member recite the verse they chose to meditate on or memorize for this week from the whole scripture section assigned. (ie, Philippians 4:8) 
  • ASK: "What happened when sharing the verse this week?"

 

PRAY

  • ACTS prayer. Each person pray either Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, or Supplication with one or two sentences in any order. A person can join in multiple times. 
  • Discuss prayer particulars (Pray first, then elaborate for group about some of prayer items).

 

READ 

  • 1st person read scripture focus section assigned for the meeting. (ie, Philippians 2) 
  • 2nd person read focus section again from another translation. 
  • 3rd person try to summarize the focus section from memory. The whole group can add details.


DISCUSS

  • ASK: "What stood out to you or you noticed going on in this passage?"
  • ASK: "What does this passage tell you about people?"
  • ASK: "What does this passage tell you about God or Jesus?”


APPLY 

  • ASK: "What do you think God wants you to know or understand?" (INSIGHT)
  • ASK: "What do you think God wants you to decide, or desire, or do?" (CHANGE)
  • ASK: "How are you going to put this into practice?" (ACTION)

 

ASSIGN 

  • Assign next section and focus section to read. (ie, Colossians 1-4, Colossians 2:6-23) 
  • Remind to select a verse to Meditate/Memorize and share it with someone. 
  • Identify who the facilitators are for the next meeting and two meetings from now. 
  • Have someone close with prayer

(the Guide is flexible and can be modified as appropriate, ie, not using all questions or segments)

DAILY PREPARATION 

for 

ALL DISCIPLES


DAY 1

  • ACTS Prayer: Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication
  • Read entire Scripture focus section assigned for this week to get the big picture (ie, Philippians 1-4)


DAY 2

  • ACTS Prayer
  • Re-Read entire section to select a verse for Meditation/Memorization (ie, Philippians 4:8)


DAY 3

  • ACTS Prayer
  • Meditate/Memorize Selected Verse
  • Read Scripture focus section to be discussed in disciples group this week (ie. Philippians 2)


DAY 4

  • ACTS Prayer
  • Meditate/Memorize Selected Verse
  • Re-Read Scripture focus section to be discussed in disciples group this week


DAY 5

  • ACTS Prayer
  • Re-Read entire section in a different translation, or
  • Read commentaries on the subsection for new insight


DAY 6

  • ACTS Prayer
  • Meditate/Memorize Selected Verse
  • Think through how you would answer Discuss/Apply Questions


DAY 7

  • ACTS Prayer
  • Meditate/Memorize Selected Verse
  • Participate in Disciples Bible Study

TIPS and SUGGESTIONS
  • ACTS Prayer: Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication
  • Facilitator rotates each week. Facilitator selects the focus section to discuss.
  • Facilitator role is not a teacher. The teacher is God through his Holy Spirit within each of us.
  • Section is entire assigned Scripture for the week (ie, Philippians 1-4
  • Focus section is portion of entire assigned section of Scripture that will be discussed that week, usually a chapter or less (ie, Philippians 2)

  • Ideal group size is 5-15 adults. Intent is to reach out to others and multiply new groups. When regularly over 13 adult disciples, multiply into two groups.
